Introduction

This FAQ answers the most frequently asked questions about the correct use of outbound calls via WhatsApp through wolkvox, in accordance with Meta's current policies for WhatsApp Business Calling.

Here you will find clarity on types of permissions (temporary and permanent), usage windows, operational limits, mandatory restrictions, and best practices to avoid blocks or permission revocations.

1. What is the call permission in WhatsApp Business Calling?

It is the explicit authorization from the user allowing a business to make outbound calls via WhatsApp.

Without this permission, no call can be initiated, even if there is a previous conversation history.

2. What types of permissions exist?

There are two types:

Temporary Permission

  • This is the standard scheme.
  • Allows calling for a limited period (usually up to 7 days).
  • Expires automatically if not used within the established period.
  • Once expired, it must be requested again.

Permanent Permission

  • Does not expire over time.
  • Can be used indefinitely unless revoked by the user.
  • Does not remove operational restrictions or usage limits.
  • The user can revoke it at any time from their WhatsApp app.

3. What happens when the permission is temporary?

  • Calls can be made within the valid period (e.g., up to 7 days).
  • If the period expires, a new permission request must be sent.
  • If not used within the deadline, it is automatically lost.

4. What changes when the permission is permanent?

  • No need to request again due to time expiration.
  • Calls can be made while respecting operational limits.
  • If the user revokes the permission, it must be requested again.
  • Still subject to anti-spam rules and daily limits.

5. Can you call if there was previous conversation on WhatsApp?

No. Conversation history does not replace call permission.

There must always be active authorization (temporary or permanent).

6. How many times can you request permission?

Meta establishes clear limits:

  • Maximum 1 request every 24 hours.
  • Maximum 2 requests within 7 days.
  • Limits reset only when a call is successfully connected.

Sending more requests may result in restrictions or blocking.

7. Is there a call limit even with permanent permission?

Yes. Even with permanent permission, operational limits exist. As a common reference:

  • Up to 10 connected calls per user in a 24-hour period.

Exceeding limits may trigger Meta's automatic controls.

8. What happens if the user does not answer or rejects multiple calls?

If multiple consecutive unanswered or rejected calls are made, WhatsApp may:

  • Automatically cancel the permission.
  • Apply restrictions to the account.

As an operational reference, approximately 4 consecutive failed calls may result in automatic revocation of permission.

9. Can the user revoke the permission?

Yes. The user can withdraw their permission (temporary or permanent) at any time from their WhatsApp application.

Once revoked:

  • No new calls can be initiated.
  • Authorization must be requested again.

10. What is the recommended flow for correctly using outbound calls?

  1. Verify if there is active permission (temporary or permanent).
  2. If not, send a permission request.
  3. Wait for explicit user acceptance.
  4. Execute the call while respecting operational limits.
  5. If the permission expires or is revoked, request it again.

This flow reduces the risk of blocking and maintains compliance with Meta.

11. What happens if these rules are not followed?

Non-compliance can result in:

  • Automatic cancellation of permissions.
  • Call restrictions.
  • Temporary or permanent blocking of the number.
  • Impact on the WhatsApp Business account.

12. What should wolkvox customers keep in mind?

  • Permission can be temporary or permanent.
  • Permanent permission does not remove operational limits.
  • Calls cannot be made without explicit authorization.
  • Request and connected call limits must be respected.
  • Correct use ensures service continuity and compliance with Meta.
